Why Hashy?
Hashy encourage school aged children to join any one of the numerous youth movements in Melbourne and to find the one that suits them best, but every movement differs in their atmosphere and ideology. Hashy tries to give the chanechim (school aged members of the movement) an unbiased version of an issue, educate on both sides, and allow them to come to their own opinion. Hashy’s secular-humanist perspective on Judaism also allows chanechim to find their own unrestricted definition of Judaism.
Hashy also has a very strong emphasis on their Kvutzah, (the year level group they are in in the movement) and progression through the movement creates very close bonds of friendship in these groups. Finally, Hashy prides itself on it’s familylike closeness, with the majority of the leading body knowing mostly all of the chanechim in the entire movement on a fist name basis, and the madrechim of each individual year level develop trusting relationships with the kids.
Hashy wants every member to be able to participate fully, and will not allow for any child to not attend an event or camp on the basis of financial difficulty, and subsidies are always available.
